Why did you decide to join Fogo Azul? What was the catalyst?
My kids are growing up and doing their own things so I have more time to do what I want and I want to spend more of it making music and spreading joy and bringing the party
Did you have drumming or musical experience before joining Fogo? If so, what?
I drum with 2 other baterias and I used to play piano
As a drummer/musician, what do you enjoy about being in this drumline?
Being part of the synergy when we all play together
Outside of drumming, what you do enjoy about being a part of this community?
The silliness and joy, and invitations to many fun events aside from gigs
What do you enjoy most about the drum you play?
The way even my simple rhythms fit into the sound of the whole band to make a big complex sound
What attracted you to drumming?
I've always felt rhythm in my soul and love creating it for others
What are your top 2-3 favorite Fogo performances you’ve played in?
NYC marathon, Spike Lee's Fort Greene party
How has drumming with Fogo Azul benefitted you or enhanced your life?
I have so much fun playing even at rehearsals and I'm getting to know a bunch of great humans who share my love of drumming.
What do your friends and/or family think or say about you drumming with Fogo?
They think it's great!
What have you learned about yourself being in this drumline?
I have a terrible terrible memory! It takes a ton of repetition for me to remember grooves and breaks
What other hobbies or creative outlets do you have in your life?
Running, yoga, gardening, chilling on my porch in the sunshine
